Virtual Disks

Virtual disks provide storage for your VM's operating system and data. You manage disks from the Storage tab on the VM's detail page.

Each disk displays its name, boot order, total size, size on disk (actual space used), and bus type.

Add a Disk

Create a new virtual disk and attach it to the VM.

  1. On the Storage tab, click Add Disk.
  2. Enter a Name for the disk (optional — a name is generated automatically if left blank).
  3. Select the Disk Pool where the disk will be stored.
  4. Set the Volume Size in GB.
  5. Click Add Disk.

Attach an Existing Disk

Attach a virtual disk that already exists but is not currently attached to any VM.

  1. On the Storage tab, click Attach Disk.
  2. Select a disk from the Select Disk to Attach dropdown.
  3. Click Attach Disk.
info

Only disks that are not currently attached to another virtual machine are available.

Expand a Disk

Increase the size of a virtual disk.

  1. Click Expand on the disk you want to resize.
  2. Enter the Expansion Amount — the additional space to add.
  3. Click Expand.
warning

Disk expansion cannot be reversed. A disk can only be made larger, not smaller.

Detach a Disk

Remove a virtual disk from the VM without deleting it. The disk remains available and can be reattached to this or another VM later.

  1. Click Detach on the disk.
  2. Confirm by clicking Detach.

Set Boot Disk

Change which disk the VM boots from.

  1. Click Set Boot Disk on the disk you want to boot from.
  2. Confirm by clicking Set Boot Disk.

The selected disk becomes the primary boot device for the VM.

Rename a Disk

  1. Click Rename on the disk.
  2. Enter the new name.
  3. Click Update.
