Manually Creating Windows Templates
Overview
This guide explains how to build a Windows Template using an ISO file within Gallium.
note
This procedure is not the recommended mechanism for running Windows VMs on Gallium. Please contact support to enable Windows Templates based on your Volume License media.
Creating an Unmodified Windows ISO Template
Setup
- Obtain a Windows or Windows Server ISO file appropriate for your template.
- Download the latest VirtIO driver CD from the official Fedora repository.
- Create a new Template in the Gallium Console with these specifications:
- Type: Windows
- Minimum Memory: 4GB
- Disk Layout:
- Windows ISO
- VirtIO ISO
- Blank 32GB Disk
- Upload the ISO images and complete template finalization.
System Installation
- During Windows setup, use the Add Drivers option to install the
viostordriver, enabling the installer to recognize Virtual Disks. - After initial setup, install all VirtIO drivers and the QEMU Guest Agent from the ISO.
- Remove the Windows and VirtIO ISOs from the Virtual Machine.
