This procedure is not the recommendation mechanism for running Windows VMs on Gallium. Please contact support to enable Windows Templates based on your Volume License media.

Manually creating an unmodified Windows ISO Template

  1. Download a suitable Windows or Windows Server ISO for your template

  2. Download the latest VirtIO driver CD from this link

  3. Create a new Template in the Gallium Console with the following settings

    1. Type: Windows

    2. Minimum Memory: 4gb

    3. Disk Layout

      1. Windows ISO

      2. VirtIO ISO

      3. Blank 32gb Disk

  4. Complete the ISO image uploads and finalise the template

System Installation

  1. During Windows Installation use the Add Drivers option to install the viostor driver so that the installer can see the Virtual Disks

  2. After initial setup completes, install the entire set of VirtIO drivers and the QEMU Guest Agent from the ISO

  3. Detach the Windows and VirtIO ISOs from the Virtual Machine
