Storage Pools

Gallium employs its own storage redundancy mechanisms, eliminating the need for a hardware RAID configuration. For best results, we recommend using a server that has two SATA/SAS/NVME SSDs, which aren't linked to a RAID controller.

Storage Pool Modes

Gallium allows for storage configuration in one of the following modes:

1. Mirror (Recommended): This mode involves the use of two disks in a mirrored array. With this configuration, data is duplicated across both disks, providing high data reliability. If one disk fails, the system can continue to operate using the second disk, reducing potential downtime and data loss.

2. Single Disk: This mode involves the use of a single disk. While this is an available option, it is not recommended for production due to its lack of redundancy. Use single disk arrays for testing purposes.

Hardware RAID

Whilst not a requirement you can use Gallium with a hardware RAID controller. To use hardware RAID you need to configure a single volume and then configure Gallium to use that volume in Single Disk mode.

You will not be able to view disk health or receive alerts when using hardware RAID. Ensure that you monitor your disk health using an alternative strategy such as the servers inbuilt iLO/DRAC.

Limitations

Please note that a Storage Pool cannot be configured to include the Boot Device and that only one pool is supported per server. If you require additional Storage Pools please discuss your needs with support.
