Introduction

Gallium can be deployed on a Digital Ocean Droplet for evaluation purposes. This allows you to quickly deploy a Hypervisor and explore the various features of Gallium for a few dollars.

Nested virtualisation (running Gallium in a VM) is not currently supported for production.

Steps

  1. Navigate to the “Images” page in the sidebar and select the “Custom Images” tab. Click the “Import from URL” button.

  2. Enter the current Gallium Image URL. This available from the "Add a Hypervisor" page in the Console. Click Next. Select “Unknown” distribution and pick the regions you wish to deploy the image to. Finally, click “Upload Image”. Digital Ocean will now fetch the image from our CDN, this usually takes about 10 minutes.

  3. Once the image has finished processing, select “Start a droplet” from the “More” dropdown.

  4. On the create droplet page, select an Intel instance type. We recommend at least 4GB of RAM. We have seen instability with nested virtualization on AMD instances.

  5. Digital Ocean will force you to select an SSH key or set a password. These options are not picked up by Gallium. When done, press “Create Droplet”

  6. Wait a few minutes for the droplet to start booting. Once it does, you can open the console and retrieve the join code.
