Create a Linux Template

Build a reusable Linux template from a QCOW2 disk image. For what each setting means, see Templates.

Create the Draft

  1. Go to Inventory > Templates and select Create Template.
  2. Enter a Template Name and an optional Description.
  3. Set Operating System Type to Linux. Modern Linux distributions include the VirtIO storage and network drivers, so no driver disk is needed.
  4. Set the Minimum Memory for the template.
  5. Turn on Cloud-Init Support if the virtual machines you create from this template will use cloud-init.
  6. Select Configure Disks to save the draft.

Add the Disks

  1. Select Upload Disk and upload the QCOW2 image the VM boots from. Add it first, because disks attach in the order you add them.
  2. To give every VM an extra empty volume, select Add Blank Disk and set its size.

Finalize the Template

Select Finalize Template. The template becomes immutable and is ready to deploy.
