Managing Disk Pools

You manage disk pools from the Disk Pools tab in the Gallium Console.

Create a Disk Pool

  1. Open your Standalone deployment in the Gallium Console.
  2. Select the Disk Pools tab.
  3. Click Create Disk Pool.
  4. Enter a Name for the pool.
  5. Optionally, enter a Description.
  6. Click Create.

The disk pool is created empty. You need to add at least one disk before it can be used for VM storage.

Add Disks to a Pool

After creating a disk pool, add one or more physical disks to it.

  1. Click on the disk pool to open its detail page.
  2. Click Add Disk.
  3. Select one or more disks from the list. Each disk shows its size, vendor, model, and drive type.
  4. Optionally, set a Display Name for each selected disk.
  5. Click Add Disk to confirm.

Only unprovisioned disks are available to add. If a disk is already part of another pool, it will not appear in the list.

Rename a Disk Pool

  1. Click on the disk pool to open its detail page.
  2. Click Rename.
  3. Update the Name and Description as needed.
  4. Click Update.

The System Pool cannot be renamed.

Set as Default Disk Pool

The default disk pool is where new virtual disks are created unless you choose a different pool during VM creation.

  1. Click on the disk pool to open its detail page.
  2. In the Default Disk Pool section, click Set as Default.
  3. Confirm by clicking Set as Default in the dialog.

Only one pool can be the default at a time. Setting a new default automatically unmarks the previous one.

Set as Template Disk Pool

The template disk pool is where downloaded VM templates are stored.

  1. Click on the disk pool to open its detail page.
  2. In the Template Disk Pool section, click Set for Templates.
  3. Confirm by clicking Set for Templates in the dialog.

Only one pool can be the template pool at a time. Setting a new template pool automatically unmarks the previous one.
