Deploying a Gallium Hypervisor is straightforward and can be accomplished in a few steps. The Hypervisor runs on most computers manufactured since 2015 and supports booting from a USB key, SD Card, or a dedicated OS disk.

Prerequisites

Before proceeding, ensure your server meets the following requirements:

  • Servers must be in UEFI boot mode

  • The server should have one or two data disks that are independent of the boot device.

  • Servers should be configured to receive an IP address via DHCP

  • Make sure your server's connection to the internet is not passing through a firewall with SSL inspection enabled

If you are evaluating Gallium you can also deploy the Hypervisor as a Virtual Machine or on Digital Ocean

Deploying Gallium Hypervisor

Follow the steps below to deploy a Gallium Hypervisor:

  1. Download the latest Gallium image: A link to the latest image can be found on the Hypervisors > Add New Hypervisor page

  2. Write the image to a bootable device: You can use a USB key, SD Card or a dedicated OS disk. Write the downloaded image to your chosen device using a tool like Etcher or Rufus.

  3. Boot your server: Boot your server from the USB Key or your chosen device. As your server boots, it will display a "Join Code" on the screen.

  4. Add the server to your Gallium account: Navigate to your Gallium Console under Hypervisors > Add New Hypervisor and add your server using the "Join Code" and an appropriate name.

  5. Configure your storage: Once your Hypervisor has been added you can configure a new storage pool from the Hypervisor View page by going to Storage > New Storage Pool and following the instructions.

  6. Start deploying VMs: Now that your Hypervisor is deployed and configured, you can begin deploying Virtual Machines using the Gallium Console.
