Installing Edge on OVH

OVHcloud dedicated servers ship without a hardware RAID controller and take a custom operating system image by URL, so the OVHcloud Manager writes the Edge bootstrap image straight to disk. The public address arrives by DHCP, and you read the join code over OVH’s remote KVM.

Before You Begin

  • An OVHcloud dedicated server with two SSD or NVMe disks and no hardware RAID configured.
  • Monitoring disabled for the server’s services in the OVHcloud Manager. OVH asks for this before any operating system install from the IPMI.
  • The Add Edge Hypervisor page open in the Gallium Console, under Deployments, New Deployment, Edge.

Copy the Image URL and Checksum from the Console

  1. Under Download Boot Image, right-click Download and copy the link address. The URL changes with each image release, so copy it rather than typing it.
  2. Select the SHA256 badge to copy the checksum.

Install the Image with the OVHcloud Manager

  1. On the server’s dashboard, select Install OS.

  2. Set Type of OS to Custom and choose the CUSTOM template.

  3. Leave Target disk group as offered and leave both customization checkboxes unchecked.

  4. Select Next. The wizard skips its next two steps and shows the custom image form.

  5. Complete the form:

    FieldSet to
Image URLThe link address copied from the Console
    Image Typeraw
    Image HTTP HeadersLeave empty
Image checksumThe checksum copied from the Console
    Checksum typesha256
Path of the EFI bootloader from the OS installed on the servergallium
  6. Leave every other field blank, including the SSH key and install script fields. Edge ignores them.

  7. Start the installation. It takes around ten minutes, and the server reboots into Edge.

Read the Join Code over Remote KVM

  1. On the server’s dashboard, under Remote KVM, select Via your web browser (KVM).
  2. Wait for the Gallium screen. The interface line shows the public address marked (DHCP), and Hypervisor not registered appears above the join code.
  3. Note the Join code.

Continue with Installing Gallium Edge

Resume at Register and Configure the Hypervisor in Installing Gallium Edge. At the Storage Pool step, choose Mirror and select both disks, including the one OVH wrote the image to. Edge mirrors the operating system onto the second disk.
